  • The trip is ~8 hours from Hamden CT, but it can easily be split into two four-hour pieces.

Come and photograph Birds! This is a great opportunity to enhance your birds in flight (BIF) photography skills!

Photograph healthy Birds of Prey in flight (and on well-placed snags). You will learn a lot plus you will come away with AWESOME photographs!!!

Low number of attendees so you have access to the birds. You’ll have numerous opportunities to hone your bird photography and especially your flight photography skills. Imagine the immersion of years’ worth of Raptor encounters over a couple of days.

This workshop will teach you the many important aspects of bird photography, including but not limited to exposure (changes dramatically when the eagle is against the sky or the water), which autofocus mode to choose, which drive to use, light angle, choosing shutter speeds and ISO to freeze action, composition, head angle, predicting behavior, exposure, etc.

We have FOUR dedicated private two-hour sessions scheduled, with an informal image review.

Flying Birds could include: Great Horned Owl, Snowy Owl, Bald Eagle, Harris Hawk, Red-Tailed Hawk, Barn Owl, Harlan’s Hawk, Golden Eagle, and Eurasian Eagle Owl will be added when available

Static Birds could include: Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl, Merlin, Gyrfalcon, Eagle Owl, Aplomado Falcon

These demonstrations include healthy birds that are trained for free flight, with each different bird unique in its own appearance and flight style. All of the birds are domestically produced, professionally trained, happy, and healthy.

We will have fun! You will get awesome photos!

• FOUR Raptor photo sessions! plus optional local migratory warblers, songbirds, etc.

• Zoom pre-workshop session

• Informal image review during the workshop

• Post-workshop zoom session show and tell, along with some post-processing tips

    • Photography of local migratory birds (this area is known for its warbler migrations)

    • Session 1 Raptor Photography

    • Informal image review

  • Day 3 5/15/26

    • Session 2 Raptor Photography

      • Eat lunch on site during break, lunch not included

    • Session 3 Raptor Photography

    • Dinner (not included in workshop)

    • Sunset, Blue Hour, and/or Night Sky Photography session

  • Day 4 5/16/25

• a 70-200 or 75-300 type lens (100-400, 100-500)

  • A 300mm lens or longer (if you have one)

  • Tripod or a Monopod (not needed unless you have a big heavy lens)
