Come and photograph Birds! Photograph Healthy Trained Birds of Prey in Flight (and on well-placed snags). You will learn a lot and come away with AWESOME photographs!!!

We have FOUR dedicated private two-hour sessions scheduled, with an informal image review in between sessions 3 and 4.

$1300, $1200 before February 15th (repeat attendees contact us for your special discount)

Flying Birds could include: Great Horned Owl, Snowy Owl, Bald Eagle, Harris Hawk, Red-Tailed Hawk, Barn Owl, Harlan’s Hawk, Golden Eagle, and Eurasian Eagle Owl will be added when available

Static Birds could include: Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl, Merlin, Gyrfalcon, Eagle Owl, Aplomado Falcon

These demonstrations include healthy birds that are trained for free flight, with each different bird unique in its own appearance and flight style. All of the birds are domestically produced, professionally trained, happy, and healthy.

This workshop will teach you the many important aspects of bird photography, including but not limited to exposure (changes dramatically when the eagle is against the sky or the water), which autofocus mode to choose, which drive to use, light angle, stopping action, blurring action, composition, head angle, predicting behavior, exposure, etc.

We will have fun! You will get awesome photos! Dress warmly. Bring hot hands. Transportation, Lodging, and meals are on your own.

Workshop includes:

  • FOUR two-hour photo sessions!

  • Zoom and/or in person introduction pre-workshop session

  • informal image reviews

  • Zoom post-processing tips post-workshop session

  • Friday

    • Meet and Greet

    • Camera settings

  • Saturday

    • Session 1 two hours

    • (eat lunch on site during break, lunch not included)

    • Session 2 two hours

  • Sunday

    • Session 3 two hours

    • (eat lunch on site during break, lunch not included)

    • Session 4 two hours

Things to bring:

  • Enthusiasm (any skill level welcome)

  • Camera (any model)

  • lots of memory cards

  • ALL of your camera batteries

  • Camera/battery charger

  • a 70-200 or 75-300 type lens (100-400, 100-500)

  • Bring a 300mm lens or longer (if you have one)

  • Optional

    • Tripod or a Monopod (not needed unless you have a big heavy lens)

  • Snacks for time between sessions 1&2 and 3&4

  • You have easy access to your car.

  • Location: Vittoria, Norfolk County, ON (Canada). The trip is ~8 hours from Hamden CT, but it can easily be split into two four-hour pieces.

  • You could drive or you could fly into the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (32 miles from hotel) or fly into Niagara Falls International Airport (2035 Niagara Falls Blvd, Niagara Falls, NY 14304) or fly into the Buffalo International Airport
